Bung which means “flower” in the ethnic Kulung language is our ninth partner community in Nepal. Compared to other partner community of ours, Bung has a marginal advantage as it lies in a minor trekking trail of Salpa Pokhari and Sankhuwasabha that leads upto Namche and all the way to Everest Base Camp. The dozen or so houses located along this trail sees a handful of tourists every year – although this number is far too low to provide any stimulation to the local economy as a whole.

There are 982 households in Bung and the population is 4520. Kirat Kulung is the major community of Bung along with Nachhiring Rai, Chhetri, Dalit, Sherpa, and Newar community. The main festivals observed are Chhakchakur, Bhume Puja, Lhosar, and Dashain.

Bung is located between our two existing communities of Chheskam and Sotang. After the federal restructuring of Nepal in 2017, Bung is now also the headquarter of Mahakulung rural municipality. Bung welcomed its vehicle in March 2018. It is now connected to the capital Kathmandu by a dusty road – now it can be reached after a 16 hour drive from the capital.
